Indenture Across the Oceans: Connections and Disconnections
This paper reflects on the history and historiogaphy of the Indian indenture experience across the former ‘King Sugar Colonies.’ It looks at the patterns of social and cultural developments in the countries of the Old Indian Diaspora and discusses the ways in which scholars from various disciplines (anthropology, history, literature) have engaged with the subject. It ends with an overview of where we are and where we might be heading.
